Treeful Treehouse Sustainable Resort

Accommodation

What We Like

  1. Real treehouses that hang from actual trees, which also protects the forest floor
  2. Entirely off-grid and goat-powered sustainable operation
  3. Some of the best nature experiences—from waterfall saunas to river trekking

Tucked away in the lush subtropical forest of northern Okinawa Island—part of a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site—Treeful Treehouse is a one-of-a-kind resort where comfort meets sustainability. Here, you can experience nature in its purest form without giving up modern conveniences.

The treehouses are anything but ordinary. They actually hang from the trees, floating at least 1.2 meters above the ground. This clever design helps protect the forest floor, lets sunlight reach native plants, and keeps the paths clear for animals to move freely. Everything is built to blend in with the natural surroundings.

Treeful Treehouse uses solar panels to produce more electricity than it needs, and the drinking water comes from a nearby well by the Genka River, purified using UV light instead of chemicals. Compost toilets are used to reduce waste, and instead of mowing or spraying herbicides, a goat named Donna helps take care of the plants.

What’s special here is that sustainability isn’t something forced on guests—it’s just part of the experience. You can enjoy meals cooked over a fire using local ingredients, do yoga on the treehouse rooftop, play in the river, or join a guided trek. Every activity supports nature, not consumption. A stay at Treeful Treehouse is a fun, hands-on way to learn about eco-friendly living—and it’s an experience you’re likely to carry with you long after you leave the forest.
