The free water refill app threatening the extinction of plastic bottles
mymizu is a free water refill platform that started in Japan, aiming to create a world where refilling water and living sustainably is part of everyday life. It encourages people to refill their water bottles and supports those working towards a circular society. By doing so, mymizu is helping to reduce the reliance on single-use items like plastic bottles.
Through the mymizu app, users can find more than 200,000 free water refill spots worldwide, including cafes and public places. The app also tracks how many plastic bottles and CO2 emissions are being saved by the community, showing users their positive impact. As more people join, the number of available refill spots continues to grow.
mymizu works with companies, local governments, and schools to build a more sustainable society. In 2020, it received the Minister of the Environment Award and was recognized by Nikkei Cross Trend as one of the “100 Companies Shaping the Future Market.”
So far, the platform has over 300,000 app downloads and has helped save around 700,000 plastic bottles. With over 200,000 refill locations across 50 countries, including 13,000 spots in Japan, mymizu is making it easier for people everywhere to refill and reduce waste.
