Kameoka City’s Kyoto Hozuai Koubou is striving to bring the lost art of Kyoto’s unique indigo back to life. With a deep commitment to the environment, Kyoto Hozu Indigo Workshop cultivates its indigo without the use of pesticides, focusing on sustainable practices from seed to dye. The workshop offers visitors a hands-on opportunity to learn the traditional Japanese art of indigo dyeing. Participants can experience the full dyeing process, from tying fabrics to create personalized patterns, to dipping them into the distinct blue dye. By using natural, biodegradable dyes, Kyoto Hozuai Koubou demonstrates a unique way to reduce the waste associated with synthetic chemicals, ensuring minimal impact with The workshop also encourages creative upcycling through their remake experience, where guests can breathe new life into old, stained, or faded clothing by transforming them into beautiful indigo-dyed pieces. This practice extends the lifespan of garments, supporting a circular approach to fashion.
